If anyone in the Northwest is within range of "The Bay" radio station, I've just done a short phone interview for the news as a follow up to a feature they did yesterday on the petition.

Not sure but you may be able to listen on-line at http://www.thebay.co.uk/

The petition got a mention on BBC Radio Cumbria yesterday and we've topped the two hundred names needed to guarantee at least some kind of response from the PM's office but we'll need thousands to get any real consideration.

I'm going to see if I can get other local radio stations to give it a plug.

Merlin,

If that response is not saying we don't have a chance before even floating the idea then I don't know what.

Talk about defeatist............................cor.

I put the idea to the company that they should support a campaign and use try and use their influence. This is their response so far...

Quote
We will be investigating the idea. However it may not be successful purely because of our relationship with the Royal Navy and the way they jealously guard their right to name ships and submarines and the class of ships and submarines.  Other groups are also pressing this idea so we will not act alone but whether we will be able to openly support it as a company depends on how it is received by the customer.

I'm more hopefull the local paper will pick up on the idea and stir things up a bit.

Just signed another petition that this apology for a government will ignore.

For info... I've already raised this internally with the shipyard and will be contacting the local press to see if we can't get a bit of a campaign going.
