Another interesting article about modern medicine; the statistics are frightening when considering it is all about human lives. Not just America either , Australia and UK get a mention. Not only the harm caused but 'they' get well paid for it too.

 Quarter-Million Doctor-Induced
Deaths Annually: Iatrogenocide?

"IATROGENIC [Gk., iatros, physician, genein, to produce], caused by treatment or diagnostic procedures. An iatrogenic disorder is a condition caused by medical personnel or procedures or through exposure to the environment of a health care facility, including fears instilled in patients by remarks or questions of examining physicians. See also: 'nosocomial', (iatrogenesis, iatrogeny, n.) ~Mosby's Medical Dictionary, 5th Edition, 1998"

"A recent study published in The Journal of The American Medical Association (2000:284:94) by Barbara Starfield, MD, MPH, showed that in the U.S. there are:

· 12,000 deaths/year from unnecessary surgery
· 7,000 deaths/year from medication errors in hospitals
· 20,000 deaths/year from other errors in hospitals
· 80,000 deaths/year from nosocomial infections in hospitals
· 106,000 deaths/year from adverse effects of medications"

This is a horrifying case of misdiaganosis and not one or two cases but over 600 and children. Even more disturbing he is still allowed to continue as a doctor. No language barrier here  Angry

Victims misdiagnosed by doctor paid £4m in compensation
The victims of a doctor who reduced children to "zombies" after misdiagnosing them have been paid more than £4m in compensation.
Dr Andrew Holton mistakenly declared more than 600 patients epileptic during one of the biggest cases of misdiagnosis in the history of the NHS.
Many of them were prescribed a debilitating cocktail of drugs when in fact they were only suffering from headaches or simply badly behaved.

It seems incredible that there is not a minimum requirement for a doctor to be able to speak the language of the indigenous population in the country where they are practising. One of the main tools for reaching a diagnosis is the asking of questions and analysing the replies. If this cannot be done satisfactorily I fail to see how it can work.

I have expressed concern regarding the medical profession before on the site or as one writer describes 'it' the " Sickness Industry". This is another angle on health although the language barrier could affect all areas of our lives some involving health and well-being. In the armed services life and death decisions hinge on understanding orders. The other link refers to a number of books on health including the work by Eve Hilary, 'Health Betrayal'. However, it is of concern that there is a problem with language and this is an issue in Australia too, in many areas as well as health; education, for example, is another situation where a common language is essential and young people need to fully understand what is being said.
Although I have held this view for some time this article indicates the concern extends far beyond my personal belief and to resolve the problem could well be impossible until time allows the matter to settle down and perhaps a common language is in use. Until then I usually opt for a doctor I know will understand me and one I can understand although this is becoming difficult given the number of overseas and foreign doctors now practicing down under.

"NHS confused over language testing of foreign doctors
Widespread confusion in the NHS over European laws on language testing of foreign doctors has been uncovered in a root and branch review of GP out of hours services"[/center]

Health Betrayal: Staying away from the sickness industry. by Eve Hillary NEW Release
.

"Fascinating, disturbing, enlightening, a must read. Eve documents the inside story on the causes of chronic illness and emerging epidemics: From the factory farms that churn out sick and toxic animals to gene pollution in the food chain caused by genetically engineered plants and animals. She unmasks how corporations manipulate government regulators, and how the media manufactures consent and suppresses the facts."
